Are you confused about how Medicare Part A, B, C, D, and Medigap plans work?
The vast majority of people who are turning 65 have no idea how financially vulnerable they will be if they have Original Medicare, Part A and Part B alone. Feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of this insurance program, and worried it will cost them money if they go to an insurance agent, many of them only enroll in the plan that’s administered by the government and say, “I’ll get something else later if I need it.”
My heart sinks when I hear this. They are unaware of all the gaps in Original Medicare… and that there’s NO LIMIT on their Part A and Part B out-of-pocket costs… and that a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) may save them money… and they may have to pay a late enrollment penalty if they wait to enroll in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)… and they may not qualify for a Medigap plan if they miss their one-time Open Enrollment Period… and that agents are paid by the insurance companies, there’s no cost to you.
But we don’t know what we don’t know.
My mission is to help you understand your options so you can make informed decisions.
Does your Medicare plan cover you onboard a cruise ship? (Are you sure?)
Original Medicare Part A and Part B does not cover foreign travel, except in rare situations. Once your ship is six hours away from the nearest U.S. port you are technically in the country of whatever flag is flying on the mainmast of your ship. Most cruise ships are registered in a foreign country. So, unless your Medicare plan covers emergency medical care globally, it may offer little or no protection or reimbursement for the costs of any medical treatments received onboard a cruise.
Should I buy travel insurance?
Travel insurance provides financial protection for unexpected travel expenses, such as medical emergencies, delayed flights, lost or stolen baggage, last minute cancellations, and more.
There are many types of plans to choose from. (Those offered by cruise lines generally have significant limitations and restrictions!) Some policies will only settle claims with “cruise credits,” while others will give you a cash reimbursement. Read the fine print carefully!
I work closely with the travel insurance experts at Travel Insurance Center to offer you carefully selected travel insurance plans from leading insurance providers that will fit your specific travel protection needs. I’ll be happy to show you options for travel insurance plans that fit your needs, as well as your budget, so you can have peace of mind and enjoy your vacation!
Does your Medicare plan cover dental & vision care?
Original Medicare Part A & Part B does not cover routine dental exams, fillings, extractions, root canals, crowns, bridges, implants, or dentures. It also does not cover routine eye exams for glasses/contacts, or eyewear. These can be very expensive! Having a dental and/or vision insurance plan may save you money.
